QUOTES FROM THE AUTHORS

I love this hymn so much.  It's one of my favorites. It's my mom's favorite hymn, also, and I can remember her singing it growing up, her beautiful soprano ringing throughout the house.  The song is really just a simple prayer for Jesus to be the focus of our lives -- our "vision." If we become what we behold, then what better prayer could we make the song of our lives?

My favorite lyric is "Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, Oh Ruler of All." In all things, Jesus, let me see You and know Your presence. For You are my Savior Who walks with me through the valley and stands next to me on the mountain peak.

I also love the chorus we added as a way for our congregation to respond in worship  to the beauty of the hymn. It's so laser-focused on our "High King of Heaven." Many times when we sing it I'm encouraged to take my eyes off of whatever problem has been consuming me and put them back on Jesus, Whose love is so far greater than any worry. (From Ben Ghormley)

LYRICS

  • Highest praises, all to You we bring - You can have it all!
  • You are holy, You are just - hallelujah!
You are mercy, You are Love - hallelujah!
You’re the Lion and the Lamb - hallelujah!
Jesus, You’re the Great I AM!

QUOTES FROM THE AUTHORS

When I wrote this song, my life was in chaos, I had just been diagnosed with a chronic illness, was severely depressed, and honestly, worshipping God was the last thing I felt like doing. But I read in Psalm 103 where David spoke to his own soul and commanded himself to praise the Lord and not forget all of the things God has done! So I sat down at my piano and did exactly that, and it turned into a song that I hope can encourage the church to lift their eyes and offer their hallelujahs in every season. (From Hannah Reeves)

I Will Cling

AUTHORS

LYRICS

  • If I flourish in the waiting, still all my wealth is in the risen King

  • I bring my plenty, I bring my need // In famine or in harvest He is all to me!

  • I will cling to His Name in the valley low
I will cling to His Name when the favor flows
I will cling to His Name over everything
For He is all, He is all to me
